I designed the porcelain to be a thin rectangular slab. I soon came to find out that creating a shape like this in porcelain is not easy. Many different methods to cast or shape the porcelain were tried, as well as different ways of firing the porcelain, and different types of porcelain altogether. After lots of trial and error and sacrificed slabs, I now have found a method which I believe will lead me to have thin, flat porcelain slabs. My latest trial still has a small bump at the top, but I think in the future, this can be eliminated. For the ceramics to be conductive, I used luster, a metallic glaze. I opted for platinum luster. I will solder the components on the luster. However, I found out that a chemical reaction occurs between the soldering tin and the platinum, whereby the platinum seems to dissolve in the tin. This lead me to use indium as the soldering metal. Using Arduino, I coded the behaviour for an LED strip. I also made a steel frame for the porcelain slab. However, for the final version, I will use a tube shaped light bulb, and create a capacative touch censor with the luster. I will also redesign the metal frame.
